According to HKFP, the initiative aims to improve public safety by deploying AI-equipped drones for crowd monitoring and search-and-rescue missions. The plan to allow drones to patrol designated routes had been discussed as authorities are set to relax the city’s rule banning “beyond-line-of-sight flying activities” of small unmanned aircraft. The Hong Kong police assure the public that the drones will be used in compliance with the city’s privacy regulations.
